700s-Music and the Performing Arts

Mary Amato said these are the steps to writing a song:

Research/brainstorm (it’s okay to be messy)
Write rough draft
Recognize and follow patterns

"The traditional kids’ song, “Down By the Bay,” was made famous by the legendary children’s song artist Raffi, though it was not originally written by him. The song appears on Raffi’s 1976 album, Singable Songs for the Very Young.
In an interview with Vulture Newsletter, Raffi talked about the song as being “an old, old song,” adding that it “may have been a World War I song” and that it “came from England.”
But there is also a Greek folk song called “Bay” or “Seaside” that exists with the same melody. Because it’s so old, the origin of the song is likely uncertain." ----American Songwriter

​Dewey Decimal 300s are where we have books about groups of people. cultures and organizations like firefighters and police, governments, girl scouts, boy scouts and the military. As Monday is Veterans' Day. We will see a short film and read a book about Veteran's Day which was originally called Armistice Day to honor the end of war and beginning of peace after WW I. If you wish, you can write a letter to thank a service person and it will be included in a packet to be sent overseas.

We are going to talk about Library Organization and the Dewey Decimal system. How do we find books? Do you think all information books about the same topic should be together? So did Melvil Dewey ( and a lot of other people.) The Dewey decimal system organized nonfiction books together by subject. We will look at the general information books first in the 000 category. These Almanacs are 031. Take some time looking through them and use a bookmark to mark pages you like. Then share your finds with students at your table!
